June was a very warm and fairly dry month. The average maximum temperature was 22.4C just beating June 1992 to the hottest June in my records. The first two weeks were warm with most days having highs between 20C and 25C. A cooler spell followed with strong winds. From the 24th to the end of the month it became warm and then hot with almost unbroken sunshine, continuing into July, in a very rare long, settled period of hot weather. The maximum temperature in Scotby was 32.2C on the 28th, the hottest June temperature in 31 years of recording. Another June record was the three consecutive days (26 to 28th) over 30C. (I must point out that temperatures in Scotby are usually slightly hotter and conversely slightly colder than other local areas because of the very sandy soil we have, like a desert!). The coolest night was the 22nd with a low of 6.1C. There were no very hot nights, despite the high daytime figures, the night time lows averaged 10C.

The total rainfall for Scotby was 43.8mm which is just over 60% of the average. The wettest day was the 3rd when a welcome 15mm fell in the early morning. A dry spell followed and then the week from 13th to 20th was quite wet. From the 21st to the end of the month there was no rain. I have recorded 10 drier Junes than this one.

June 2018 - After a wet start to the month with over 20mm falling on the 2nd, things began to settle down. But a very windy spell on the 14th with a little rain caused damage in some areas nearby, the strength of the wind was unusual for the time of year. Then we began our dry spell and heatwave, peaking on the 28th with a high of 29.1c. There was no rain after the 20th. As a result rainfall was well down with just 55.4% or normal. Mean Max was 19.6c equaling the highest set back in 2010. Overall mean was 14.8c which equals the record of June 2014. At least there was some thunder which was heard on 3 days early in the month.

Mean Max 19.8c (+1.9c)
Mean Min 10.0c (+0.5c)
Mean 14.8c (+1.2c)

Highest Max 29.1c 28th
Lowest Max 14.9c - 15th
Lowest Min 5.4c - 22nd
Highest Min 14.9c - 2nd
Grass Min 0.2c - 22nd

Rainfall 43.2mm or 55.4%
Wettest Day 2nd with 20.2mm

Sunshine 232hrs sunniest June on record 157.9% - will be interesting to see the Meto map for this

Max Gust 49mph 14th
Mean Wind Speed 7mph

Thunder 3 days
No Fog or hail, came close to a Gale day on the 14th

last rain was the 20th June and as I type its now 18days without rainfall, grass is brown.
