February 2012 was a very benign month with very little out of the ordinary to report. The average daily maximum temperature of 7.7C was the expected normal for February, although interestingly it was exactly the same as January this year. The month began with below average temperatures and frost every night for the until the 10th. The lowest temperature was on the 2nd with a minimum of -7.3C. Later in the month it became milder than average and night-time temperatures were very mild. On many days from the 21st onwards there was little difference between day and night, with temperatures in the range 8C to 12C. The mildest day was the 23rd with a high of 13.2C.

The total rainfall for February was 30.5mm, which is less than half the average for February. Until the 18th there had been hardly any rain at all, although a small amount of snow fell on the 4th it didn't settle in Scotby. The month was dominated by high pressure systems with two quickly moving low pressure areas on the 18th and 22nd. It was these which brought the most rain (10mm and 7.8mm).
