Just starting to get weather data in for June and surprised how low some of the average maximum's are, at Ambleside the mean max of 17.2 is 1.4c below average, at Drumburgh it was dead on average. In the Penrith area its about 0.5c below average. Yet I am sure the MetO reported that June was the hottest on record?

In Cumbria it certainly wasn't and not a patch on 1976.

Based on what Andy said - the following is for Newton Rigg and is quite surprising:

In a series back to 1952 a mean temperature of 13.65°c is the coldest since 2015 with 46 having been colder, 18 warmer and 1 having the same mean temperature.

So not an especially warm June - however, the mean minimum temp' of 9.9c is the 2nd equal warmest (with 1993) - The Highest was 1976 with 10.25c

The warmest June going back to 1914 (3yrs missing data) is 1940 with 15.2c when the mean min' was only 8.28c.

Rainfall of 124.2 mm (212%) made it the wettest since 2012 and in a series back to 1900 there has been 111 drier and only six wetter.

UK mean temperature was 14.5c the warmest since 2006 also 14.5c and 2003 was 14.6c. Warmest on record was 1976 at 15.0c

using UK average maximum temp June 2017 was well off, 2014 and 2010 being higher even.

so, mainly due to mild nights was it so warm across the UK as a whole.

the UK averge minimum temp was 0.5c higher than any other since 1910 - at 10.6c so mildest average minimum on record

hope that helps!
